Everest

Everest Base Camp

This is the classic trekking in the Mount Everest region. The first day you go by bus or jeep from Kathmandu to Jiri, the starting point of this trekking. The next day you start walking and you pass through the beautiful villages of the lower Solu. In spring you can see the blooming rhododendrons and the blossoming of the apple trees. After 10 days of trekking you get to Namche Bazar at 3440 m, where you have a day of rest to acclimatise. You are in the Khumbu now, the higher part of the Solukhumbu region. From Namche Bazar you descend rapidly. First to the monastery of Tengboche. The Lama (the abbot of the monastery) is very busy during the climbing season, blessing the expeditions going up Mount Everest. After another day of acclimatising in Dingboche, where you make a side trip to an altitude of 5000 metres, you continue to Mount Everest Base Camp. We stay overnight at Gorak Shep (5200) to ascend Kala Pattar (5549) early the next morning. From this 'black mountain' the view of world's highest mountains is stunning!

We leave the high mountains behind and descend to Luka in three days. There we catch a plane back to warm Kathmandu.

Everest Gokyo

This trek in the Everest region is a special trek: there are less toursits in this area. You fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and walk in the first 2 days to the centre of the Solo Khumbu area, Namche Bazar. From here you take a side trail in the direction of the Rolwaling region to visit the monastery of Thame (4000m) and to get used to the altitude. After returning to Namche you head towards the Gokyo Lakes and climb Gokyo Ri (5357m). The view from this top to the huge mountains of 7000 or 8000 or higher is magnificent. You can see Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lothse and Makalu. Next day is a long, hard but beautiful day. You start early in the morning to get in time over Cho la (5400m). Once over the Cho La you descend to Lobuche. From here you have the opportunity to go to Everest Base Camp. You stay overnight at Gorak Shep (5200) to ascend Kala Pattar (5549) early the next morning. From this 'black mountain' the view of world's highest mountains is stunning! In 3 days you descend through Tengboche and Namche all the way to to Lukla. There you fly back to Kathmandu in a little plane.

Everest View Point.

Everest is also called Sagarmatha by Nepali people. The translation of Sagarmatha is like "mother earth" or "biggest mountain on earth". And that is completely true: there is no mountain higher than Sagarmatha with the altitude of 8848 meters. It is situated in the Himalaya range close by other huge mountains above 8000 meter: Lhotse, Nuptse and Makalu

During the trek you can enjoy the views of Everest and you can get very close to the biggest mountain in the world. Also you can enjoy the views of what people find the most beautiful mountain in the world: Ama Dablam.

The trek starts with a spectacular flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and continues with a hike to Phakding. Next day you will climb to Namche Bazar, the capital of this district. You will stay two nights here to acclimatise. The following days you will explore several villages in the area. You learn about the habbits of the local people and enjoy the view of the big mountains. The last days you descent from Namche Bazar back to Lukla, where you will fly back to Kathmandu.

This trekking is very suitable for families, for example during Christmas holiday.
